With the popularization of personal digital communication , WLAN gets more and more broad application. It has become an important proportion in personal communication field for its mobility. At the same time, users' requirement for data service gets more and more higher. To satisfy their requirement, researchers introduce many new solutions to increase the capability of wireless communication system. Smart antenna is one of the technologies that can improve radio channel performance . It also can increase system's capability. What's more, it has become a key technique in 3G system. So ,how to apply smart antenna in WLAN come to a hotspot.There are six chapters in this dissertation. The first two chapters introduce the research background and the theory of smart antcnna. They also analyze the meaning of this research, and introduce the application of smart antenna in wireless communication system. In the 3rd chapter Ⅰ focus on the research of adaptive algorithm for beamforming , and compare the convergence of LMS and RLS algorithm. In the 4th chapter Ⅰ introduce the 802.11n system including key techniques introduction applied in this system. In chapter 5 the simulation of 802.11n system physical layer using C language is given .the performance of spatial spreading and beamforming is compared .Influences to the system performance are analyzed subsequently. The last chapter looks forward to the future of smart antenna.
