These research works in this thesis are supported by National Basic Research Program of China (973 Program), National High Technology Project of China (863 Program), the Key grant Project of Chinese Ministry of Education and Science and Technology Project of Beijing Education Committee.Photonic crystal fibers (PCF) are a new kind of fibers with photonic crystal structures. PCF have many unique properties compared to traditional fibers, such as endless single mode operation, flexible tailorability of dispersion and modal area, high birefringence etc. These properties have great advantages and value in nonlinear optics and optoelectronics. In this thesis, the nonlinear propagation in PCF and the transmission in 2D photonic crystals whose thickness is limited when the light incomes along the vertical thickness direction are studied. The main theoretical and experimental contents are lists as follows:1. Theoretical investigation of the propagation of femtosecond pulses in PCF on Nonlinear Schrodinger Equation by split-step Fourier method is presented. The influence of initial pulse energy, initial pulse width and dispersion on the generated spectrum is discussed. It is found that the spectral envelope of the generated continuum is determined primarily by the higher-order dispersion of the fiber. Specifically, the interplay between third-order dispersion (TOD) and self-phase modulation is found to dominate the propagation dynamics .In addition, the spectrum exhibits a highly complicated substructure that is extremely sensitive to input pulse energy.2. We study the transmission when the light incomes along the vertical thickness direction of 2D PC by scattering matrix method .In usual, the study of 2D Photonic Band Gap is based on 2D plane, which is different from the direction of wave propagation in PCF. So we will transform the study from 2D to 3D. The influence of different incoming angles on the transmission is also discussed. The...
