With the popularization of Internet and the development of multimedia techniques, digital multimedia (image, audio, video, etc.) has become main means of information communication. While one can acquire a wide range of multimedia data through the Internet, various problems (copyright violation, illegal copying, easy forging, etc.) arises naturally that seriously harm the benefit of the author or the copyright owner. How to protect multimedia data from violation has become an important issue in information security field. As a main application of information hiding technique to multimedia copyright protection, the digital watermarking technique, to identify the author, owner, distributor or authorized consumer of multimedia data. So it has drawn extensive attention in recent years and has been widely applied.This thesis introduce the development background, basic principle and system model of digital watermarking technique, based on which watermarking algorithms are presented, such as spatial domain, DCT domain and wavelet transform domain watermarking algorithm.Based on spatial domain watermarking algorithm introduce visible and invisible watermarking algorithm. Visible watermarking algorithm use texture of color image to choose imbed gene, which protect multimedia data obviously. Invisible watermarking algorithm introduce a frailty watermarking algorithm base on secure hash algorithm, which can examine the temper image and locate the tamper domain.Based on transform domain watermarking algorithm lucubrate DCT and wavelet domain watermarking algorithm of color image.
