In recent years, with the rapid development of information and the application and popularity of information technology, information security becomes more and more important. As the core technology of supporting and achieving information security, cryptology has won wide heed by countries all over the world. Block cipher is even in the priority development station because of its modular and rapid speed. National Institute of Standards and Technology launched the campaign of selecting Advanced Encryption Standard in April 1997,and then proclaimed the Rijndael Algorithm as the final Advanced Encryption Standard on October 2,2000.Next,Europe started New European Schemes for Signatures, Integrity, and Encryption even more large in January 2001. They wanted to issue a series of strong security cipher standards, including not only block cipher, but also stream cipher, Hash function, message authentication code, digital signature, public key cipher and so on. Camellia was chosen as European block cipher standard in February 2002 because of the excellent performance in various platform and its withdrawing many attack ways. This thesis has a detail investigation on Camellia and the central contribution is as follows:1. A detail introduction of Camellia is presented, including encryption algorithm, decryption algorithm and key schedule algorithm, and also, the design idea and design principle is presented.2. A systemic summary of the security on Camellia is presented, mostly the status quo of withstand many attack ways.3. The only non-linear part of the algorithm—S-box is researched in the view of multi-output Boolean function, and the algebraic expression and Boolean function expression of the S-box are obtained. After analyzing a series of the cipher properties of the S-box, the inner course that Camellia could be chosen as European block cipher standard and could withstand many attack ways effectively is revealed.
