It marked a new epoch in blood transfusion project of our country that Blood Donation Law of the People's Republic of China had been implemented in 1998. As main body of blood transfusion project, blood station has been attached importance by government and medical treatment organization. In recent years, the rapid development of automatic fingerprint identification technique provided stable supporting technology for the improvement of blood station management system.There have been completely new demands for the security of nations and social living in modern society characterized by informatization, digitalization and networkization. Security of our country is in urgent need of biometric recognition technique that owns the absolutely independent intellectual property right to ensure in the future. Fingerprint identification has become mainstream of biometric identification technique, because that its combination property exceed the others.In this paper, the blood station's management and the fingerprint-based identification technique have been overviewed. Then the algorithm about automatic fingerprint identification technique has been studied by using technology of image processing and pattern recognition, and the application in blood station management system has been discussed.In preprocessing of fingerprint image, four sides are discussed, including outline segmentation, filtering enhancement, segmentation binarization and thinning. Thereof, the paper probes into directional smoothing filter method to implement binarization, which deduced noise of binary image, and an improved image template thinning algorithm is proposed in the paper against the deficiency of a classical image thinning algorithm, which is effective thinning algorithm acquiring satisfying thinning image.In minutiae extraction, a 8-neighborhood's crossing number algorithm is adopted. Then we deleted false minutiae directly in post processing of minutiae extraction. Aim at the characteristic of false minutiae, Base on the studies of two representative false minutiae eliminating algorithm, the optimized synthesis algorithm is given out.In feature matching, a dot pattern matching method is developed, which combine subschema matching method for solving rotations and scale changes problems, and employ variable bounding box to solve translations problem.
