Zinc oxide (ZnO) is an important II-VI wide band gap (Eg=3.37 eV) semiconductor with a relatively high exciton binding energy of 60 meV. Since the realization of stimulated emission of ZnO multicrystal films at indoor temperature by optical pumping in 1997, researches on ZnO and its related materials have become one of the most promising and attractive aspects in the opto-electronic field. In recent years, experts and professors are making great efforts in UV characteristic of ZnO and P-ZnO and neglecting IR characteristic. In this paper, we investigate the optical properties of ZnO, especially MIR spectrum. ZnO nanoparticle can not absorb electromagnetic wave in MIR, so we put in impurities in ZnO nanoparticle to achieve fine MIR absorption. The nanoparticle of ZnO doped with NiO in different proportion is obtained by combustion method in order to realize infrared absorption.
