3D-image of cloud has a great advantage in weather forecast over 2D-image of cloud. In this background, this paper studies the 3D-visualization of cloud based on infrared nephogram of satellite. The main content is as follows:1. Data source and its disposal. At present, the data of cloud comes from observatory or meteorological satellite. The former divides cloud into several types based on the atmospheric meterage, which detects the shape of cloud, the capacity of cloud and the height of cloud bottom. The latter on the basis of the technology of remote sensing uses various sensors to induce the natural state of cloud. This paper studies how to use both of them to provide original data for the 3D-visualization of cloud. Theory of the 3D-visulazation of cloud. Infrared nephogram of satellite has many advantages, such as high precision and wide area, so it has been chosen to be the origin data of the 3D-visulazation of cloud. Before visualization , analyzes the acquirement of infrared nephogram of satellite and its character, and then presents the theory of 3D-visulazation of cloud.2. Modeling of the surface of DEMCT. According to the data of infrared nephogram of satellite, provides the concept of DEMCT (Digital Elevation Model of Cloudy Top), studies the technology of modeling of the surface of DEMCT.3. The arithmetic of triangulated network of 3D-visulazation of cloud. To fulfil the require of visualization speed and precision, designs certain rules to create triangulated networks in terms of the character of cloud. Cloud Rendering of real feel. According to the character of cloud, designs some rules of color and transparency mapping to render the real appearance of cloud. Method of integration. After 3D-visulazation of cloud, integrates the 3D-cloud with 3D-terrain into Virtual Battlefield Environment to make sure that cloud be one of the natural components of Virtual Battlefield Environment.4. Based on the contents mentioned above, realizes a system of 3D-visulazation of cloud to validate the theory and method of this paper.
