The rapid development of stealth technique makes anti-stealth a pressing theme, in which radar target detection is a key tache. Because of the development of radar polarimetric technology and the potential that the use of radar polarization information can improve the radar detection performance, this paper studies polarimetric detection of radar target both in the narrow-band radar and in the wide-band radar. When the radar is narrow band, radar target is studies as a point target. Target and clutter are modeled as having a zero-mean complex Gaussian probability density function (PDF). Target is assumed as slowly-fluctuant. At first this paper introduces polarimetric detection algorithms of radar target in uncorrelated clutter. If clutter is correlated between pulses, this paper presents several polarimetric detection algorithms with coherent radar and compares their detection performances. Further, this paper discusses the influence of clutter correlate coefficient on target detection performance.Wide-band high-resolution radar can resolve a target into a number of scattering centers. This paper studies target detection algorithms using polarimetric one-dimension range profile. At first by exploiting polarimetric information in different polarization channels, a fused and enhanced one-dimension range profile is obtained by PWF. Then we can detect radar target through integration of scatters in different resolution cells or the number of detected scattering points. At last, in the circumstances of a wide-band radar is used for target detection, the length of received signal is much longer than that of the transmitted pulse signal. Because the traditional matched filter collects only a small part of the energy of received signal, it is not good for detection. The generalized matched filter is obtained by improving the traditional matched filter and can collect all energy of received signal, which is good for detection.
