Support design is a key problem in FDM, as it will greatly affect the accuracy and quality of the prototypes. This dissertation researches on the support design methods based on CLI file and the technologies of software implementation. The research work covered in the dissertation is as follows:First, the formats of CLI file were studied and the necessity of CLI file verification was also discussed here. At the same time, the solutions to the problem of redundancy data and unclosed contours were given, which are often appeared in the file.Second, according to the features of FDM craft, A FEM model of the mechanics behavior between adjacent prototypes layers was presented. Then the layer warpage was analyzed by use of the FEM software and summed up the general rules of support design in FDM. To stand on the facts that only if the overhang length reaches to the critical value, begins the warpage. The FEM software was used again to analysis a geometric model which could represent relations between the overhang length and deformation, while the analyzed data was used to form a fitting function with these parameters.In addition to discussing the present methods of support generation, a type of the support-structure with regular polygon group was put forward in the dissertation. Focusing on the related algorithms of automatic support generation, the inner or outer contours searching algorithm, the algorithm of intercept equation to offset contours, scanning line pre-fill contours algorithm, the algorithms of automatic support-structure generation and reduction were studied further.Finally, using the software engineering methods to design the CLI file verification and support design system. Meanwhile, the reasonable modules were devised in order to carry out the main functions of the system, and the software was achieved after programming and debugging in VC++6.0 environment.
