As an essential public information resource, the socio-economic statistical data plays an important role in government management, enterprise decision-making and socio-economic researches. There are quite a few ways to manage and disseminate the data, and the database management system is the most effective method. Generally, socio-economic statistics have several characteristics such as a large number of indicators, adjustment and optimization of indicators occasionally, and clear geospatial units for statistics. Considering the statistical changes in spatial units and temporal indicators, GIS-based spatio-temporal database is selected to manage multiple-year statistical datasets. This paper attempts to introduce a spatio-temporal data model for socio-economic statistics and implement it in ESRI Geodatabase.According to the principle of information system analysis and design and the modeling method of spatio-temporal data, this paper introduces GIS and spatio-temporal data model to statistical data management. Technical procedures of this research are:⑴data requirement assessment and data collections;⑵analysis of the spatio-temporal natures of the socio-economic statistics;⑶conceptual and logical spatio-temporal data model design for socio-economic statistics;⑷physical data model design in ESRI Geodatabase;⑸database implementation and application development. Based on the literature review of the research progress of spatio-temporal database and the data analysis of socio-economic statistics, this paper suggests a data model and related techniques for socio-economic data.
