Computer-Aided Multi-Domain Cooperative Plant Design System (for short CPDS) is a new research branch in AECO (Architecture, Engineering, Construction, Operation) oriented CAD, and also the inevitable trend of the plant design system. First of all, this thesis analyzes the characteristics and key problems of CPDS. Then, the main technologies are discussed in detail, which include system architectures, data management methods, cooperation mechanisms, et al. These contents are classified as follows:1. The current R&D status of CPDS. Firstly, we analyze the development of CPDS, then summarize its characteristics and present the main problems confronted in the current R&D of CPDS. Based on these, the emphases of this thesis are determined.2. The architectures of CPDS. According to the characteristics and requirement of CPDS, we propose three kinds of models: the whole hierarchy model based on C/S, the mixed model for data management, and the structural model for interaction and cooperation. These models support the cooperation in CPDS efficiently.3. The data management methods in CPDS. We present a dynamic model of data management in CPDS. Also, the major methods for data management are described, including object-relation data model, description of data with topology relationship, data access control, et al. These methods provide basis for the cooperation mechanism based on data-share.4. The abstract of cooperation modes and two kinds of cooperation mechanisms in CPDS. The cooperation mechanisms are respectively based on data-share and web-message, which basically resolve the multi-domain cooperation requirements.5. The prototype system of CPDS. We develop the prototype system of CPDS in three subjects, which cover the cooperation among clients in a single domain as steel structure design, cooperation between two steel structure design systems based on different CAD platforms, and cooperation between two design systems for different domains as piping design and steel structure design. These aspects of prototype system are essential for the improvement of CPDS.
