The mortality rate for lung cancer is higher than that for other kinds of cancers around the world. At the same time, it appears that the rate has been continually increasing in recent years. Conventional chest radiograms have been used to screen lung cancer and computed tomography is widely used to help detect lung cancer, because through this, it is possible to diagnosis correctly. However, this process is exhausting for there are so many images that should be interpreted. In addition, the error of reading could not be avoided. Therefore, computerized automated detection or diagnosis systems for medical image could be used to help clinicians diagnose, treat, monitor changes, and plan and execute procedures more safely and effectively. In this thesis, we studied the problem of the detection of peripheral nodules in pulmonary computed tomography images. The studies are motivated by the potential of computer-aided detection to improve detection accuracy. To make such system practical, these techniques are required to develop the automated segmentation and recognition methods.Firstly, We solve the CT-image-obtaining problem by the study of the structure of DICOM file, which is used to store CT image. Then comparing anisotropic diffusion method based on partial differential equation with LUM filter, an anisotropic diffusion filter, and finally determine to use LUM filter to preprocess the...
