With The development of automatic control theory and the apply of the computer in the control fields. Various forms of involved controllers which based on kinds of control theories are now readily available. The common feature of these controller is that the major object of the controller is computer. Since the development of the control theory, it is very neccessory to build up an experimental platform.A water level process control system is designed in this paper. The water level device is a TITO system, which works like an industry process plant. This paper deals with the software and the hardware works of the microcomputer based data acquisition and processing system. The hardware includes a computer and a multi-function board named PCI-1710 produced by Advantech Corporation in Taiwan, and the control software is programmed by Visual Basic6.0 language. The Access database was established by using ADO Object Model dynamically when the program designed.In view of the parameters' time-variation feature of the actual process, this paper applies a self-tuning controller in this system. It consists of a parameter identifier based on the recursive least squares with Forgetting Factors method. After that, this paper does some simulations based on the close loop z transfer function. The results of the simulation indicate that the controller can perfectly complete the level control.Finally, serial experiments are done, including PID controller and STC controller. The experiment results show that the system is a perfect experimental platform for control algorithm research.
