With the development of Internet and wireless Internet, many kinds of information terminal unit such as PDA and HPC have been widely used in current society. On-line handwriting character input is becoming the main method of input means. The continuous handwriting Chinese characters recognition is the trend of handwriting Chinese recognition. For the current research of the Chinese character recognition system, most of them are based on single character recognition. First the system need segment the continuous characters to single character, and then recognize the character respectively. The recognition performance of above system is determined by whether the continuous characters are segmented accurately and fleetly or not. Now, The segmentation algorithms that segment the continuous character mainly depend on the intercharacter space. If the intercharacter space doesn't meet the condition in the segmentation algorithm, for example, exiting interconnection among strokes or Radicals of the character, the segmentation algorithm will not work well. What's more, if the left-right structure character being written radicals apart, the segmentation algorithm will mistakenly segment one character to two.To resolve this problem, the paper proposes an approach to recognize continuous handwriting Chinese characters using Level Building and Dynamic Time Warping algorithm. The level building algorithm is used to match a series of DTW to an observation sequence, without having to first segment the sequence into sub-sequences produced by different models. Each level of the LB algorithm corresponds to the match of a reference model to some part of the observation sequence. As the character segmentation and recognition are doing synchronous, the wrong segmentation can be put right. And this permits the use of a lexicon directly within the LB algorithm rather than as a post-processing step.Since Chinese characters are composed from a small set of fundamental radicals, the problem of recognition continuous Chinese characters can be converted to that of extracting a small number of radicals and then combine them. In the paper, the rule of radical selection and Chinese character splitting are...
