With the development of videophone/video conference, digital TV, VCD/DVD, and etc, the video coding has gradually become the common research field of academic and industrial groups. In this thesis, motion estimation and compensation, the key technology of video coding, are investigated. Its specific work includes:Making analysis on the video motion models, deducing the parametric model which describes the orthographic projection of 3-D rigid motion of a surface to the 2-D image plane.Combining with the parametric model, proposing an improved global motion estimation algorithm based on the analysis on traditional algorithm. Comparing with the traditional algorithm, the experimental results show that the new algorithm is superior in computation and accuracy.Proposing the frame chart of video coding with global motion compensation on the basis of frame chart of the conventional coding method with block motion compensation analysis.Making analysis on the ITU-Recommendation H.263. Designing and implementing the H.263 video coding based on global motion compensation. Comparing with the traditional coding, the experimental results show that the global motion compensation coding can save up to average 50% in total bit-rate and improve the PSNR by 2-4dB.Making analysis on the Audio and Video Coding Standard Workgroup of China Recommendation AVS. Designing and implementing the AVS video coding based on global motion compensation. Comparing with the traditional coding, the experimental results show that the global motion compensation coding can improve the PSNR by more than 0.1dB.
