| P2P, also known as Peer-to-Peer, is either an equality network or a thought, which overthrows the architecture of current Internet. This innovative thought has soaked into many organs of inter-network since the technology of which has experienced an extraordinary progress during recent years. Accordingly, the application systems of P2P have been and will be more and more mature.BT (Bit-Torrent) is one of the plenty of successful cases of P2P technology in file sharing field. The key philosophy of BT is that peers should barter for chunks of files, which is a heritage of P2P network concept. BT network has attracted more and more network users swinging in with it as a result of its advantages compared to the traditional network. The population of BT users increases rapidly in the world wide, so as to the number of websites which provide BT services. Consequentially, the resources in BT network run up to a very large amount. BT network is overspreading at very fast speed. However, along with expending, the bandwidth consumed by BT in Internet is overloading, which troubles network providers so much. Besides, pirate issues threaten the future of BT.The positive and negative impacts of Bit-Torrent make it necessary to meter and study BT network scientifically. This paper aims to the BT network in China, and studies in both public network and educational network. So, here we present the design and development of Bit-Torrent Network Metering System (BNMS) in details, and give a particular introduction to BNMS in a technical angle. After that, the BT network is metered by BNMS in Release Website, Torrent File Server, Tracker, Resource, and Peer aspects and the metering results are collected to statistical data, which is then analyzed and forms the status of the BT network. These results and conclusions can be used to further investigation of BT network and traffic monitor of network bandwidth.Because of the flaws of the current BT system, this paper also attempts to make an improvement on BT system-a new BT system based on position-detecting mechanism. This mechanism is focused on the reduction of cross-network traffic. With this optimizing mechanism, BT system will avoid bandwidth waste and increase file sharing efficiency. |
