The research work included in this thesis was supported by grants from National Basic Research Program of China, "Basic Research on Integrated Optoelectronic Devices and Microstructure Optical Fibers with Structure and Technology Innovations for Future Advanced Optical Communications" (2003CB314900).In recent years, optical communication is developing very quickly. But the integration of the electrocircuit chip is limited by the "electron bottleneck" infection. The photons carry no electric charge and the speed is much higher than electron, so the integration and the speed may be much higher if the photons are used, and it is perfect because the attenuation will to be zero and many lightwave amplifiers will be saved. So a tuning lightwave filter is needed badly. In this thesis, a photonic crystal filter is designed by using the defect, and then it is simulated using matlab. The thesis work can be summarized as follows:1. By using FDTD, the photonic crystal including one spot defect, twospots defect and line defect is analysed. In this thesis, the radius of the medium poles in the photonic crystal is 90nm, the diameter of the crystal lattice is 600nm and the wavelength bandgap is between 1400nm and 2100nm. It is found that when the radius of the medium poles is between 120nm and 180nm, a single defect peak will appears in the bandgap and the FWHM is between 6nm and 12nm;2. Using the two spots defect and the line defect, a multi-port filter is designed and simulated.3. The experiment is a control system of measuring photonic crystal filter and when the system is done, it is used to measuring a photonic detector.
