The third generation mobile communications system (3G) was first introduced by International Telecommunications Union (ITU) as FPLMTS (Future Public Land Mobile Telecommunications) and later defined as IMT-2000 in 2GHz band. In 1998, several organizations from Europe, Japan, Korean and USA established the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) to accelerate the 3G progress. Up to now, some important milestone standards have been released as R99, R4 and R5. As the high-speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) is introduced in R5, more and more attention is drawn to high speed wireless access technologies. Recently, Long Term Evolution for 3G aimed at achieving 100Mbps peak rate in 20MHz band downlink is carried out in 3GPP. Multi-carrier techniques can combat hostile frequency selective fading encountered in mobile communications. The robustness against frequency selective fading is very attractive, especially for high-speed data...
