With the development of computer graphics technology, 3D figure of terrain has more advantageous than plane map. Visualization and building technology of 3D terrain is one of hot topics in computer graphics research, having strong science purport and applying to many fields such as military affairs, education and publishing etc.The generation of meshes plays a special role in computer graphics and analyse of works, and in which triangular meshes is one of the most important technology of demarcate, its use is wide. This paper analyses in detail the local subdivision method, forthcoming methods are not aim at handling the undulate after the subdivision, however, to display three-dimensional terrain, the way to make it verisimilitude is to increase the undulate. In this paper, a local subdivision method is going to embody the involved terrain which has a lot of terrain traits, solve the defferent demand of mesh density in Three-dimensional terrain reasonably. The local triangular mesh subdivision is suitable for the densification of producing three-dimensional terrain;achieve the local mesh subdivision on the basis of original whole mesh, to embody the change of rising and falling in the terrain. The following word has been done in this paper: First, the generation of meshes and improve the design of the data structure, which is more suitable for the local subdivision method;then convenient for the delimit of the subdivision region by using Windows API, simplify the involved course of pickup;last achieve the mesh subdivision and embody the change of rising and falling. The local subdivision also can apply to the research of LOD.
