In recent years, the Point-based Computer Graphics has developed into a booming branch of Computer Graphics for its intrinsic advantages. The Point-based Computer Graphics Research Group from the State Key Lab of CAD&CG of Zhejiang University has obtained many results during the research process in these years. Nevertheless the scattered distribution of our research results makes them difficult to be reused efficiently in the following research. To reduce such negative affection, a point-based rendering and modeling system with good extensibility has been developed in this thesis. All rights reserved by our research group. The system adopts the platform + plug-in design pattern. A series of kernel modules, including reading, storing, editing, rendering and plug-in management, have been integrated in it. The interfaces for plug-in programming and data IO have been provided by this platform. Furthermore, data exchanging interface is designed for sharing data within different plug-ins. Such system has the capability of integrating many scatter modules as a unity. Thus, the previous and following research results can be easily and efficiently integrated into this system. Besides, an extra bottom level module has been implemented to enhance the capability of processing large-scale point model in our system.
