Er-doped materials have attracted much attention because of the around 1.54 μm photoluminescense, corresponding to the maximum transparency of silica-based optical fibers. With the development of optical communication and integrated optoelectronics, Er-doped optical waveguide amplifier (EDWA) becomes the hotspot and more and more research has been devoted to optimize the optical properties of EDWA.This dissertation was supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (Grant No.50240420656). We fabricated a series of Er/Y co-doped and Er/Yb/Al co-doped borate-silicate laser glass with various Er, Y and Al concentrations. The absorption and photoluminescence (PL) spedctra, together with the lifetime of Er3+>+-4I13/2 were measured. Based on the absorption spectra, the absorption cross-section and emission cross-section was presented. Also, the optical parameters such as Judd-Ofelt intensity parameter and radiative lifetime of Er3+>+-4I13/2 were calculated by Judd-Ofelt theory. The major points of this work were summarized as follows:1. In the research on the Er/Y co-doped glass, we fabricated two sets of samples with various Y concentrations and constant Er concentrations of 0.5 at.% and 1.0 at.%. We found absorption spectra around 1530 nm was broadened with Y doping in the glass and this broadenness increased with Y concentration increasing. The dispersion effect of Y can prevent the lifetime of Er from quenching so that the lifetime of Er/Y co-doped glass with 1.0at.% Er could be equal to the lifetime of the glass with only 0.5 at.% Er concentration.2. With the analysis of the optical parameters calculated by Judd-Ofelt theory and the lifetime of 4I13/2 of Er gotten in experiment, we investigated Y doping's dispertion effect and influence to the environment of Er .3. In the research of Er/Yb/Al co-doped laser glass, we fixed the Er:Yb at 1:6 and varied the Al concentration. We founc Y doping could enhance Er absorption capacity and made the PL spectra of Er broadened. According to the spontaneous rate and the lifetime of Er, we discussed the influence of Al to the environment around Er and the broading mechanism of PL spectra.
