Research On MAC Technology Of Wireless IP Network

With the high development of personal data communications, people are not satisfied with accessing to Internet immovably. The combination of data network and mobile communication network will be the certain trend. By applying IP protocol to wireless communication network, we can obtain the universal"all IP"network, with what users can get into Internet quickly and expediently. And now the wireless IP network has become the hot spot of research.The research emphasis of wireless IP network is wireless access network. Especially, the media access control mechanism is the most attractive part, since it determines the main performance of the wireless access network. Now several kinds of wireless network are in use, such as IEEE 802.11 WLAN, Bluetooth, IEEE 802.16 WMAN and so on. We can obtain beneficial apocalypse by studying their MAC mechanism.We pick out two representative wireless MAC mechanisms for our research: one is contention-based IEEE 802.11 WLAN MAC; another is demand assignment IEEE 802.16 WMAN MAC. Through our description, performance analysis and simulation, we get the conclusion that the IEEE 802.16 MAC will be the development trend of designing wireless access network for it can support QoS and its higher efficiency. Now this kind of MAC protocol is used for large area wireless coverage, and it can be considered that it will be used to provide high-speed wireless integrated services in small area wireless coverage like offices and small companies.
