Electronic commerce or e-commerce is defined as the process of using electronic technology to do business. This project is about Online Video Information System's design and implementation. Customers of the store can search for video products based on their interests, view the detail description of the products and buy them. Purchase will be accepted by collecting user's credit card information as well as the address. The above functions must be accessible through any web client system. Store staff will mail the purchased products to user after charge is drawn from the user's credit card. The system is an automated one that allows a firm to improve the efficiency in management and delivery of orders. A virtual firm "Generations Video Store" was considered to illustrate the information needs of a typical enterprise. The system is designed and implemented using the Model View Controller (MVC) design pattern. The Java servlets, Java Server Pages (JSP) and the Javabeans are the java technologies used.In this paper, firstly some background information is introduced about our system. Then the technologies used are introduced. After this, the requirements determination and analysis is conducted, a number of frameworks like Kozar's Requirement Model, The PIECES framework are reviewed and utilized. Then system architecture is considered as well as session and security requirements of the system, including session tracking, Java security, Secure Socket Layer (SSL) and database security of the system. Next with SQL Server 2000 used as the backend database we designed all tables required in our project. Connection pooling with (Java DataBase Connectivity) JDBC is given a special consideration. After all this, based on the MVC design pattern, the interface design and implementation is carried out .A number of interfaces are shown, the interactions of the servlets, JSP and javabeans under the MVC design pattern are also explained. Finally an evaluation of the entire project is undertaken by examining the limitations of the system and some of the problems encountered in its development. Some recommendations to improve the system have been offered.
