Design And Implementation Of The PDF-Based Secure E-Mail System

With the development of E-Mail system, more and more data (including secret data and important data) are stored in the E-Mail. Under such a situation, how to protect these data and how to transfer these data to supply people with valuable information become urgent problems for us to resolve. And architecting a PDF-Based secure E-Mail system is exactly the method we have found.The SecureMail system introduced in this paper expands and completes the traditional E-Mail system with the information security technology. It uses the mechanism of request-response between client and server, identity authentication and the encrypted transmission via the network to enable the end users to protect their information with simple interactive operation. SecureMail uses many technologies which includes identity authentication, data encryption, data secure transmission, secure query and exploring, secure storage procedure and organization of Web resources and so on.Three main aspects of my work will be discussed in this paper as below.Firstly, this paper researched the cryptography theory and technology, exploring how to protect the data and how to transmit the mass data with high performance and high security. The data encryption is used to provide the system with powerful information protecting capability. Based on the work above and the thorough research of security model and security architecture, the requirement satisfying security architecture is established with combining the universal security architecture principle and the practical requirement.Secondly, it has been a popular researching field to research how to identify and authenticate the identity of user in the E-Mail. This paper is doing some research in this field, too. It integrated the modern information security technology (e.g. PKI) and achieved considerable effect.Thirdly, the SecureMail, which is a PDF-Based secure E-Mail system, has already been implemented on the Windows Platform. The SecureMail is an independent secure E-Mail platform, which is based on PDF format of document, integrating the virtual printing technology and data encryption technology. It can make up the disadvantage of traditional E-Mail system. The system has been put into practice and achieved satisfying practical effect.
