Space-Time Coding (STC) technology has become an attractive realm of wireless communications in recent years. By combining the technique of channel coding and that of array diversity, it can not only greatly increase the capacity of wireless communications systems but also provide diversity gain and coding gain. The bandwidth efficiency of STC is improved much more than that of traditional single-antenna systems. This technique is intended to provide new solutions to the problem of limited bandwidth and will find its applications in future wireless communications systems for high speed data transmission. In this paper, based on studying the performance of Alamouti two transmit diversity scheme and Tarokh orthogonal space-time block codes for BPSK modulation over Rayleigh fading channels, a new method of performance estimate and a general expression of output signal-to-noise for orthogonal space-time block codes over fading channel at the receiver are shown. The error probability of space-time block code is analyzed and the minimum distance sphere bound of the symbol error rate is derived for PSK/PAM/QAM modulation over Rayleigh/Rician/Nakagami fading environment. Simulations demonstrate that the good performance of space-time block code by using multiple transmit antennas and receive antennas, the "floor effect" of the transmit-antenna number and the symbol error rate influenced by related fading parameters over the three fading channels.
