In the process of modern industrial automatic production, mechanical vision, including automatic examination of mechanical accessory, control of intelligent robot, automatic monitor of product line, and so on, is becoming a key technology to enhance efficiency of productivity and to guarantee quality of product. Also, it is of a great importance in the area of national defense and space flight, like automatic track and identification of mobile target, navigation for self-governing tank, automatic landing for cabin of lunar module, and vision control of space robot. In recent years, intelligent robot based on mechanical vision has been applied in many areas of industry. But because of huge amount of calculation, which is necessary for robot's vision system, today most of them are built on PC or other higher computer system. On the ground of analyzing characters of robot's vision system, this paper uses the successful application of DSP chip in multimedia for reference, and represents the idea of combining mechanical vision and embedded system. Aimed at restriction of embedded system, we advance a new solving project for embedded robot's vision system based on DSP, including hardware platform of designing system, naturalization of operating system and exploitation of Internet applications. With this platform, we do a lot of research on robot's vision track and navigation method, and bring forward two navigation methods applicable to this kind of embedded robot's vision system. The successful application in robot's vison system, validates the system with merits of practicality, economy, small volume and easy to expand. It will be a great foundation for applying robot vision in embedded system.
