Edge extraction is a basic technique in the image processing and computer vision, and it has become the foundation of the high-lever analysis and comprehension of image. For providing the unified solution, active contour model is applied in extensive range vision problems. Such as edge extraction, image segmentation, contour tracking, 3D reconstruction and so on. The major goal of this paper is to deeply study active contour model and apply the technique of Snake for edge extraction a series of CT images.Active contour model (Snake) is a flexible tool of using various of restricted conditions, it has very good effect on medical image segmentation, so it has application in widely range. The paper introduces the arithmetic of active contour model and arithmetic of GVF Snake that is the improved arithmetic of active contour model, and the improved arithmetic has application in edge extraction for the CT image series of bone. According to the problems, we improved it on both hands that model contour's initialization and accelerating the speed of this arithmetic and provide way that based on the grads of grey to automatic initialize the contour of model and auto adjust the parameter y ,and have good effect.3D reconstruction of medical images is the crossed study field of many objects that has been the popular problem in resent. It is the important application in biomedicine engineering. This paper introduces the ways of the 3D reconstruction and the steps of 3D surface reconstruction, so it affirms to the significance of active contour model.We have the VC++ as the code environment, and carry out the improved GVF Snake arithmetic with the finite difference method. We make the 3D reconstruction based on the edges of the bone's CT images series that were extracted, and have good effect.
