Research On The Algorithm Of Image Processing Related To Fingerprint Recognition And Face Recognition

Biometrics recognition is one of the main topics in the fields of pattern recognition and image processing technology. However, as an important step of biometric recognition, image processes still have many challenging problems exist. One of the challenges is the recognition when the achieved images are low quality. In this paper, image processing algorithms for fingerprint and face recognition are studied, and the correlative algorithms are also proposed.The main contents of this paper are as follows:(1) The popular biometrics technologies are introduced, and the model of the biometrics recognition system and performance evaluation is also discussed. Finally, primary algorithms and theories of fingerprint and face recognition are introduced.(2) The enhancement algorithms for fingerprint image, such as gray normalization, segmentation, the calculating of orientation field and frequency filed, binary processing and so on , are presented, which provide foundation for the fingerprint recognition.(3) The feature extraction algorithms, such as binary image thinning, thinned image post-processing and minutiae extracting, are presented. Experiment results show that these algorithms can get good accuracy.(4) The image preprocessing technologies related to face recognition, including the face geometric normalization and illumination normalization, are studied. An optimal image preprocessing technology is chose based on the analyses and test of the effect of image processing to recognition rate.(5) The segmentation method of face image is disused based on the fixed template technology. The face contour extraction algorithm based on the Canny edge detection method is also proposed.The dissertation presents a systematic investigation on the image processing theory and technique of fingerprint recognition and face recognition, which studied and realized image enhancement, feature extraction, image segmentation and face contour extraction. The research makes a foundation of the theory and technology for further developing.
