In modern high performance computing, grid technology is required in a great capacity and high reliable distributed storage system. The storage resource of grid technology is achieved by datagrid which is distributed in wide-area computing environments. Datagrid integrates all kinds of high performance storage system to a unit one. It can not only share resources and make fully use of resources, but efficiently avoid conflict of data explode and limited storage ability.In many systems, such as SRB(Storage Resource Broker), hierarchical directory structure is adopted to manage metadata. There are some simple facets because of the hierarchy and single frame characters of metadata. Generally when the metadata becomes enormous, the existing data management system is not efficient to transfer terabytes or petabytes of information. To resolve these problems, storage virtualization provides us an effective way. Storage virtualization of Datagrid can resolve the conflict of data explode and limited storage ability. It forms a single reflection of distributed storage by designing a virtual storage pool, so the complexity of management in datagrid high performance storage system is reduced a lot.Based on those problems, the metadata management of Datagrid is studies in this paper. On the basic of advance grid systems and their meta-information technologies, we introduce a RMDS (replication based MetaData System) to improve MetaData Controller (MDC). In RMDS, a replication consistency module is adopted, and an efficient algorithm to manage highly dynamic metadata replicas is charged. The copied metadata directories are to obtain high efficiency. PQ algorithm can add replicas of source files in a domain to improve the access availability. At the same time, it gains rapid response to the enormous accessing, and it brings replica server a temporary change to not build replicas so that the w/r efficiency is improved. RMDS can reach better efficiency, scalability and management.
