Along with the development of wireless communication, all kinds of wireless communication systems appeared, the advancing of WLAN, Ad hoc, WPAN raise the upsurge on the short distance wireless communication. However, the people's demands are increasing, hoping it to provide higher data rate, lower cost and power. And UWB can meet these demands. It is becoming the main technique on short distance wireless communication in future. Whatever in America or in Europe, UWB technique gained great attention. The UWB system produced GHz-level bandwidth and power frequency density using ultra short pulse (<1ns). The UWB system specially applies in short distance wireless communication because of its characteristics such as lower power and anti-multi-path decline ability.TG3a has minified the UWB WPAN PHY layer standards sorts from 23 to 2, one is the MB-OFDM supported by MBOA, and another is the DS-UWB advanced by UWB forum. The two techniques are great different, so they can't be compatible or cooperate with each other. IEEE has given up unifying the UWB standard, so the two standards will coexist in future.It is these years that UWB aroused the people's attention, one of the research directions relating to the modulation. Different modulations give great effect to system transmission rate, anti-multi-path ability. To draw comparison of them will have certain reference meaning to the system's modulation design. In addition, the improving on data rate of the systems is also our hanker goal.This paper carries through correlative introduction and research on UWB system. The main researches and results are the following:1 , Starting with the rationale of UWB, analyzed the technique characteristics of the system, known about its abroad applications fields, traversed the modulation of UWB.2, Because of the deadlock of the two suggest standards, analyzed the two standards specially: Introduced the PHY layers of the two standards, then comparing and analyzing them respectively in vary aspects (transmit signals , multi-path performance, transmit power).3 -< Traversed the system theory and key technique of OFDM mobile communication, and study the UWB system based on the OFDM.4, Researched the means of obtaining higher data rate in UWB system. Starting with the technique to advance the data rate aimed at the two standards. Present UWB-OFDM PHY layer designs for VHDR, carrying out the simulation and analysis on the systems.
