The technology of modern computer has stimulated the rapid growth of the computational science. The new generation of computer should be better than the former ones in the power and speed of computing. But the people's demand of high performance of computing is increasing too. In practice, the limit of speed and technology has embarrassed the PC to be used widely. In addition to enhancing the computing power of processor, parallel processing is also an efficient way to enhance the power of computing.so it is important to study the high performance parallel computing technology.In the past, the parallel processing can only run on the expansive and special computers. Along with the cost of PCs and network descending, the distributed parallel computing system is used on the parallel computing widely. Now, the popular parallel computing environment is MPI(Message Passing Interface) and PVM(Parallel Virtual Machine). Because of the advantage of the MPI, which are portal, powerful function, and high efficiency, it became the most important tool to design parallel program.This paper analyzes the basic theory of the parallel computing at first, introduces the cluster and the message passing system of MPI. Then the paper establishes a parallel computing environment based on MPI and Windows. A parallel computing program base on MPI and Gauss-Seidel iterative mothed has been analyzed and completed. Finally, from the theoretic and practical study, the feasibility of proceeding paralled computing based on cluster of PCs was discussed and some meaningful conclusions and suggestions for future research are given.
