With the improvement of modern Radar system, Radar Automatic Target Recognition has come into being and developed. One of the most important progresses that have been made in radar techniques is the increase in their resolution, which has made it possible for the radar to perform not only the classical tasks of detection, lacation, searching and tracking, but many advanced functions including target imaging and recognition. In recent years, high resolution radar target recognition has received intensive attention from the radar as well as signal processing community. In practical scenarios, the targets are often non-cooperative and maneuvering, as a result the positions of observed range profiles varies easily in the range window. Unless the relative position shift of range profiles are compensated, their further processing and recognition is impossible. Therefore, range alignment is a crucial problem in HRRP based radar automatic recognition. Over range alignment based correlation, although absolute alignment has the advantage of low computation complexity, its alignment accuracy is decreased. For the purpose of using range profile in target recognition, this dissertation does some research and analysis on the existing absolute range alignment methods, meanwhile, an HRRP recognition approach is proposed. The experimental results on radar measured HRRP data prove our method efficient.
