With the rapid development of Internet and multimedia communication,the security problems of communication systems have been paid moreand more attention. At the same time, the wide distribution of digitalmedia also poses a challenge on how to protect copyright of theseproducts. Information hiding technology has been proposed as a solutionto the above problems. Especially for video information hidingtechnology, the appearance of a large number of digital video and audioproducts for consumptions, such as VCD and DVD, makes it an emphasisof present information hiding technology.This paper firstly introduces the basic conceptions, classification andapplication of information hiding. Then, it puts the emphasis on thecharacteristics and application of video information hiding. At the sametime, it analyses the classification of video information hiding based onthe description of video coding for MPEG-4. Finally, it presents a newalgorithm compliant to video bitstream and video coding characteristicsof MPEG-4 by analyzing a typical information hiding algorithm based onbitstream domain. The results of experiment have proved that the newalgorithm is fit for MPEG-4 better, yields invisible degradation of videoafter hiding, has a high capacity for hiding and is easy to operate.
