Peer-to-peer technology is currently one of hot spots in network computing, and P2P-based distributed computing also has been more and more popular. JXTA technology is a set of open, generalized P2P protocols, characterized as independent of programming language and operating system, can be a reliable and wieldy infrastructure for P2P application development. Reverse engineering is a technology which gets point data from the surface of model object and produces an alternative of the existed model automatically or manually. Almost all algorithms of point cloud processing require carrying out neighbor points seeking, which is quite memory and CPU cycle consuming. So the idea of seeking neighbor points through P2P-based distributed computing is brought forward.Firstly peer-to-peer technology is introduced, and JXTA technology including its highlights is thoroughly analyzed. Reverse engineering and several algorithms that neighbor points seeking related are briefly introduced. The main idea of the thesis is:The investigation of design and prototype implementation of P2P-based distributed computing platform is carried out, mainly including the overall architecture and components of the platform, the relations and communication between all components. Task dispatcher peer group is used to dispatch the tasks rather than a peer for the redundancy; the scalability of the platform is also discussed.Neighbor points seeking in huge amount point cloud through the above platform is investigated, including that whether point cloud should stay in memory for more than one task. The store mechanism of computing results is also discussed. Then the distributed computing platform is tested with example application and actual point cloud. Finally, the problems that will encounter in engineering and improvements are pointed out.
