Adaptive beam forming(ABF)architecture is the key technology of the modern phased array radar.Partial adaptive beam forming has the potential for reduced life-cycle costs,and reduced complexity of ABF system,especially in large array antenna.To reduce the dimension of signal processor,elements are combined to form subarrays and signal processing is applied at subarray level.Heuristic optimizing algorithms such as GA,PSO,ACO is used in the area of signal processing more and more for both its enlarge the searching domain and its searching efficiency.Thus heuristic optimizing algorithms is the most powerful tool for the task of subarray segmentation.This paper focus on four parts:1.The flow of signal processing for phased array radars and the model of the received signal from array has been investigated.Then two basic approaches about adaptive beamforming are introduced,such as MVDR,LCMV, and the results of these approaches are analyzed.2.Partial adaptive digital beam forming has been investigated.Then,the methods of subarray division by regular and irregular means have been investigated.The problem of grating lobes and nulls caused by regular subarray division is discussed.The origin of grating lobes and nulls is analyzed,and the rules of subarray division to avoid them are summarized.3.Three heuristic optimizing algorithms such as GA,PSO,ACO has been investigated.Then,correspondence between the spatial structure of algorithms populations and subarray configuration and its restrictions were analyzed.4.A partially adaptive beamforming algorithm based on irregular subarray by the use of heuristic optimizing algorithms is proposed.LCMV method is used to calculate the weighting vector.jammer is suppressed as well as the enhancement of sidelobe level of the sum beam sections and output SINR.Finally,We simulate and analyze all the presented algorithms.The simulation results demonstrate the efficiency of the algorithms.
