With the rapid popularization of the Internet and the rapid development of P2P technology, the proportion of network bandwidth and resources taken up by P2P applications has been increasing day by day. More and more devices have been connected to the Internet and they have made IPv4 address space running out. Therefore, IPv6 has been placed on the agenda. The greatest advantage of IPv6 is that there are almost unlimited addresses. Not only does IPv6 solve the problem of the serious shortage of IP addresses, but also it restores the function of end-to-end connectivity which is lost as a result of insufficient IP addresses. IPv6 offers a new opportunity to the wide use of P2P technology.The infinite addresses of IPv6 has provided a basic condition and wide developing space for P2P applications. Due to the characteristics of P2P itself, P2P applications can consume the network bandwidth, lead to congestions, reduce the network performance, degrade the quality of service, and hinder the launching of normal businesses and the widespread use of certain critical applications. Therefore, in order to solve the problem existing in P2P applications in the IPv6 environment, we need to ffectively identify and detect the P2P traffic.Currently, there is a lack of comprehensive and effective method to identify the P2P traffic in the IPv6 environment. For this reason, we studied the characteristics of IPv6 and network characteristics and several existing P2P traffic detection methods. We analysed and compared the advantages of various detection methods as well as shortcomings. On this basis, we designed a P2P traffic detection program, which combines the advantages of several detection methods and combines them organically. This paper proposes a system model of P2P traffic identification based on IPv6, which aims at how to effectively identify and detect the P2P traffic under the circumstance of IPv6 by learning and analyzing IPv6 protocol and researching of the main traffic detection methods of P2P. This model adopts a modular design method and implements the functionalities respectively in each module, which is easy to modify the functionality of the system and extend features. The model could effectively identify and detect the P2P traffic under the circumstance of IPv6.
