In history, mankind has created many splendid arts and culture, in which painting is one important form of artistic expression. The ancient paintings have precious archaeological and cultural value, but during long-term preservation, the natural environment (humidity, temperature, light, dust) or man-made improper protection of ancient paintings introduced varying degrees of aging and fading. Thus,virtual restoration of ancient paintings based on computer technology play a very important role in both heritage preservation and study of historical cultural . This paper contributes in fixing color of old painting using color technology combined with multi-spectral digital image processing technology.Firstly, high precision digital image paintings are acquired through multi-spectral acquisition equipment. Set up multi-spectral acquisition system using optical filters with digital camera. Reconstruct each pixel reflectance according to the collected spectral image. Finally, reproduce accurate color information based on the spectral reflectance.Secondly, different model of color restoration for rice paper and pigments are proposed. The aging model of rice paper is established through physical experiments to simulate the aging process of rice paper. According to the principles of computer color matching, color composition of the pigment is calculated. Then a set of color options are provided.Finally, old paintings are rejuvenated based on the model of color restoration. First, different color layers are obtained based on similarity of reflectance. Then choose the appropriate color for different color layers. At last, the processing is color mapping based on reflectance.
