Pneumatic technology which is applied widely in industry more and more, has a series of obvious advantages and becomes an important part of automation. After1990, pneumatic technology is largely improved beyond traditional methods. And, pressing automation is an inevitable choice of the pressing manufacturers to solve their security problems and improve economic performance. And pressing manipulator is an important component of pressing automation. However, the high prices of pressing manipulator at present keep a number of internal small and medium pressing manufacturers away. This paper studied a low-cost pressing pneumatic manipulator which was applicable to the generic pressing production.Firstly, the basic structure and operational principle of pressing manipulator was introduced. On this basis, pneumatic manipulator was used for the realization of the action of transforming the parts for pressing machines. Then actuating mechanism and driving system was designed and optimized. During this process, the design requirement of reduction of cost was carried out through to the end. Then, using ADAMS2005, the author established the virtual prototype(VP) model of the pressing manipulator according its design drawing. And a simulation of the virtual prototype was provided according to the analysis of the actual action of transforming the parts of the pressing manipulator. To meet the system function of the pressing manipulator, a program logical controller(PLC) was used to establish its control system according the analysis of the function of the pressing manipulator. Finally the control program of PLC was debugged and refined in the actual experiment of the control system of the pressing pneumatic manipulator.By the theoretical research and practical experiment, the technical difficulties concerned with the pneumatic pressing manipulator was resolved. A set of modular pneumatic pressing manipulator was developed. This product can supply industry field with feasible technique criterions, and promote the application of the pneumatics in industry field.
