Particle swarm optimization (PSO) is an optimization algorithm based on swarmintelligence inspired by social behavior of bird flocking. PSO is easy to be understood,PSO can be implemented easily because it hasn't many parameters to be adjusted andits strong global search capability. So it attracted attention of researchers in differentfields widely. It has become an important optimization implements and has been widelyapplied to the object functions optimization, dynamic environments optimization, neuralnetwork training and so on. But for the defects of particle swarm optimization algorithmsuch as lower search velocity, being prone to getting into local best position in laterevolution phase, longer search time and lower precision, it is essential to make someresearches about improvement of PSO.The thesis focuses on the principles, theory, and applications of PSO, an in-deep andsystemic study on how to improve the conventional PSO algorithm, solving theproblems such as high-dimensional function optimization, PID controller parameterstuning.The main achievements of this thesis include:(1) Most researchers have focused their efforts on how to promote the convergencerate and avoid the premature convergence problem. In order to overcome somedisadvantage of PSO such as easily trapped in the local optimum, easilyto be premature,bad local search capability. In the research, we attach much importance to relativeresearch results of social psychology and biology, A quantum-behaved particle swarmoptimization algorithm with N-M(SQPSO) is proposed, which can better balance theglobal searching and local searching ability, through the simulation results achievedgood results.(2) PID controller is a method widely used in industry to achieve automatic control.The theory of PID is simple and easy to be implemented but has higher reliability.However, The tuning of parameters is the core issue of PID design and applications.Inorder to achieve excellent control results,the SPSO is applied in PID controllerparameters tuning process and the experimental results show that this parametersoptimization algorithms has fine control effect.
