Safety is the essence of civil aviation. Eliminating unsafe human factors of air traffic controllers and pilots is a significant measure to reduce air accidents and improve safety of civil aviation. Physical health of the brain is closely related to human activities. Wrong behaviors lead controllers and pilots to make wrong decisions, which may result in severe accidents. It is quite necessary and significant to research on brain behaviors of aviation personnel to ensure flight safety. The functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) is a non-invasive technology with high temporal and spatial resolution, which make this technology play an important role in the information processing of human brain and neural-related activities. There are two kinds of fMRI, Arterial spin labeling fMRI (ASL-fMRI) and blood-oxygen level dependent fMRI (BOLD-fMRI). Compared with traditional Methods of research based on complex experiment design, resting state functional MRI could be a more advantageous choice for clinical researches and applications which can be done without any design and subjects'response. This paper aims to provide technical support for visual examinations in the pilot selection. Summarize data processing methods based on BOLD-fMRI, and for each type of methods, principles, main contributors, their advantages and drawbacks, and applications are discussed. Arterial spin labeling images are used to calculate cerebral blood flow of people. As compared to the resting state ASL data, the ASL under the visual task exhibited significant cerebral blood flow abnormalities. The results preliminarily indicate that the arterial spin labeling signals can be used to explore human visual cortex. The Independent component analysis method was used to analyze the cerebral blood flow images of the normal calculated by arterial spin labeling data, two brain networks are found which are default mode network and visual network. The result indicates that arterial spin labeling images can be used to investigate the visual system and brain health of pilots.
