There are so many legacy systems in the real world. How to deal with these legacy systems is a challenge and of course an important topic to computer engineers. A legacy system is an antiquated computer system or application program which continues to be used because the user (typically an organization) does not want to replace or redesign it. More importantly, it still satisfy the user's needs. Actually, the word legacy may have little to do with the size or age of the system, it could be a system programmed recently or it also could be a system has been used for a long time. In the same time, the cloud computing no doubt is the hottest topic nowadays in this century IT world. Sure, it provides a promising way for future software development and causes a huge wave of service oriented attempt. The cloud model's"pay as you go"concept, and get the service wherever you are in a low price, and shared resources built on cloud platforms. The cloud brings a new wave of services. .Many organizations are now considering how their legacy systems can take advantage of cloud platforms. Through migration, if we can deploy the existing legacy system to the cloud, not only we update the system to make it still valuable, but also we can scale and offer as a service so that more people could use it. This thesis is a research focusing on combining legacy systems and cloud platforms together, offer a framework for migrating existing legacy systems to the cloud. We will look into the migration towards the cloud by using model driven methodology and architecture patterns that are suited for the cloud infrastructure. The research will focus on the migration of existing system and the redesign of the existing systems structure with architecture patterns. Additionally, we will focus on how to deploy the redesigned systems on the cloud. The research will present a framework MOMISC, which is short for Model driven of Migration legacy System to the Cloud. In this framework we will offer a set of solutions and tool that supports migrating existing legacy systems to the cloud. The overall procedure and steps are included in the MOMISC framework. In the end, we will choose a cloud platform and deploy the system on the cloud. We hope that our framework could be helpful to people who are also trying to migrate an existing system to the cloud or engineers/researchers who are interested in the cloud and trying to explore.
