Spectrally narrow and frequency-stabilized lasers are used in optical atomic clocks, precision metrology and high-resolution spectroscopy. Pound-Drever-Hall(PDH) technique based on an optical resonator is usually employed to stabilize laser frequency with high precision and to obtain a narrow laser linewidth. To meet applications in simple commercial laser systems, here we design a small solid quartz cavity for the reference cavity in the PDH technique. Since the modulation depth and frequency have a great impact on the frequency-stabilized laser performance, here we analyze the principle of electro-optical phase modulator, discuss the impact of modulation depth and frequency on the frequency discriminator's spectrum. In experiments, linewidth, finesse and contrast of quartz cavity are measured by laser frequency stabilization system. Finally, we analyze birefringence of quartz cavity and explore the way to eliminate the stress birefringence. The experimental results reveal that the quartz cavity is applied to laser frequency stabilization study. In addition, we can further improve the parameters of control system to increase the laser frequency stability.
