With the increasing demand of high-speed data services and system capacity in the future mobile communication systems, LTE-Advanced system, as a candidate technology for the next generation mobile communication systems, introduced the heterogeneous network as feature, which offers more flexible deployment and effective solution to increase system capacity, improves system throughput as well. Currently domestic and foreign major telecom operators and mobile equipment makers have been invested significant resource on various aspects of this topic, including system level simulator development, prototyping and radio resource management algorithm research.Through building system-level simulation platform, with the latest heterogeneous network researches and relevant proposals in 3GPP, this thesis focuses on radio resource management algorithms in case of pico-cells and relay stations, mainly about inter-cell interference coordination and power control. Based on analysis and research, this thesis proposes some improvement and optimization, then performance evaluation and analysis are completed finally. The main contents include:(1) Construction of system level simulator with heterogeneous network which is based on Huawei's LTE platform. This simulation platform is developed in accordance with the assumptions and parameters in 3GPP LTE-Advanced contributions and protocols, specifically including the establishment of heterogeneous topology, channel modeling, serving UE admission control, and modules of handover, scheduling and power control.(2) Analysis of cell interference variation in heterogeneous scenario, and an inter-cell interference coordination approach based on regional location is proposed, and with system simulation validation this algorithm can effectively improve the interference process efficiency and adjust the coordination accuracy.(3) Based on in-depth study on the introduction of the "type 2" relay, first delay of the X2 is assessed, and then the impact on power control technology is simulated. For purpose of evaluation performance, base stations'received power, system average throughput and cell edge throughput are adopted as metrics.
