With the rapid development of technology for radio access, the communication environment becomes more and more complex and heterogeneous. Coverage related problems will bring negative or even serious impact to the performance of the network. Now the network managers can configure, diagnosis, repair and re-configure directly on the cell coverage base on the current state of the radio access network, however, this will result in high cost. Besides, only by manual management and maintenance, the cell can't meet the growth of the communication requirements. So how to achieve the self-management of coverage for radio access network has become a hot issue.In the self-management of coverage problems in radio access network, there are three main parts:coverage prediction, coverage detection and coverage compensation. Coverage prediction is responsible for calculating the probability of abnormal area, and forecast the location, type, scope and the affected cells of coverage problems. Coverage detection focuses on the exact information of coverage problems timely. In the period of coverage compensation, the parameters of cell are re-configured to achieve the compensation for coverage of cells.Base on the problems mentioned above, this paper proposed a self-management model for coverage problems in radio access network. Firstly, the coverage prediction and coverage detection are combined as the self-detection of coverage problems. By using the cell based coverage estimation and environment based coverage estimation, the high-probability region is predicted, and by analyzing the data collected from use equipments, the location of problem area is detected. Secondly, a wiggling adjustment model for radio access network cell coverage is proposed, after the model analysis, the detail of design for wiggling adjustment model is proposed to reduce the interference caused by excessive overlaps and optimize the coverage of cell preliminary. Finally, this paper proposes a self-compensation model based on genetic algorithm to solve the compensation of specific coverage abnormal area.This paper discussed the self-management for coverage problems in radio access network. Although this is belong to the self-optimization of self-organization network, the design process and algorithms can be used in other self-optimization process. Besides, this thesis has a great relevance on the self-healing, so it is the basis for future research work.
