With the development of computer science and technology, mobile devices with build-in camera are populized gradually. Correspondingly, the use of mobile multimedia such as photos and videos are spreading rapidly. Nevertheless, limited display size of mobile devices leads to the restriction of human-computer interaction. Though, more intelligent and user-centered design of multimedia system is of the most importance for mobile devices. NewGallery is such an intelligent mobile multimedia system that based on content analysis. The system is based on technologies of face detection, face clustering and video keyframe extraction. It attempts to provide a more effective and satisfied mobile multimedia browsing experience through well-designed graphical user interfaces.Start from requirement analysis, this thesis describes the design, implementation, testing and the user study of the system. NewGallery implements face detection and clustering based picture browsing, video keyframe extraction based video browsing and playing, and a brand new touch-control user experience. Firstly, related technologies of NewGallery are introduced, including face detection, face clustering, video keyframe extraction, Agile and user interface evaluation, etc. Secondly, requirement analysis, including software environment and hardware environment, is described. Thirdly, the system design and subsystem design are proposed based on requirement analysis. Then, the development of subsystem, system integration and testing are presented within the rules of Aigle and iteration development. After that, a user study on picture browsing subsystem is carried out to evaluate and prove its usability and effectivity.In the end, the whole thesis'work, current system's shortcomings and future work are summarized. As well as, the summary of my research progress and work during the master-degree study are described.
