Keeping on a core research topic of radio relay, three aspects of work has been carried out based on previous contribution. First, combined with the 3GPP standardization process, the latest development and challenges in future of TypeⅡrelay technology has been summarized. Not only the applicable scenarios but also a scheme of TypeⅡrelay has been introduced. Then, some issues of TypeⅡrelay in practical view have been discussed. Secondly, using diversity and multiplexing tradeoff criteria, performance of Decode Forward (DF) relay and Amplify Forward (AF) relay are analysed. More specifically, DF type relay includes selective decode forward relay and incremental decode forward relay; and AF type relay includes traditional amplify forward, selective amplify forward and incremental amplify forward relay. Different from previous study, we use a general model in time slot allocation of access link and backhaul link. Based on that, the DMT performance of above mentioned protocols are derived. The results show that the incremental decoding forward relay achieves the optimal performance. Third, the capacities of relay network with complexity constrained node are studied. Current contributions can be divided into series of single relay node and series of multi-relay nodes. Focused on multi-relay network, discrete memoryless relay channel and the Gaussian relay channel are considered for first step, and further extended to multiple relay networks.
