A tunable optical filter is one of wavelength-selective devices, and it's widely used in the fields of optical communication and fiber optical sensor, such as reflective mirror and narrow filter for semiconductor laser or fiber laser, multiplexer or demultiplexer, noise depression in optical amplifier, wavelength selective device, and wavelength converter. With the further development of optical communication and fiber optical sensor technology, as for the coral components of multiplexer, demultiplexer and integration system, the tunable filter has became the indispensable critical device in the optical network. Nowadays, although there are several kinds of tunable optical fiber filter, the tunable filter based Fabry-Perot(F-P) is most widely used and matured.The fiber optical tunable filter based all-fiber F-P etalon allows partly light passed, where the cavity length of F-P is multiple of the wavelength of the light, and the others attenuate as Airy function. Limited to the fabrication technique, the previous tunable filter had some defects in terms of tuning rate, dynamic range and insertion loss, and it can hardly satisfy to practice application. The tunable filter in this dissertation is based all fiber structure, without lens or some collimating devices. The mainly purpose is to improve the performance of tunable optical filter based F-P, and offer a tunable filter based F-P, which features high accuracy, high resolution, low insertion loss, insensitive to environments disturbance, high transmission performance and large dynamic range.The dissertation introduces the history and present status of tunable optical filter at home and broad, and emphasizes the importance of the localization of tunable optical filter based F-P. At present, this device almost all imports, and extremely costly, which impedes the development of optical communication and fiber optical sensor. Therefore, this issue focuses on the practical research in terms of low-cost and mass production.According to the specific performance index of tunable optical filter based F-P with high performance, the fabrication process with low cost and localization was researched. First of all, the dissertation discuss the influence factor to the performance of tunable optical filter based F-P in detail, in terms of processing technology and film coating technology of fiber ends. Then, the related experimental device and specific operation approach, were also presented. Moreover, the influence factor to repetitiveness and stability of temperature were analyzed and experimentally researched. Finally, some advice for further research was proposed.In this dissertation, the tunable fiber optical filter based F-P can offer many advantages, including large dynamic range, low insertion loss, fast tuning, very narrow 3dB bandwidth and so on, and could apply to optical communication, fiber optical sensor, microwave photonics etc.
