There are numerous advertisements in broadcast and television programs. These advertisements sometimes may not be broadcasted completely, lost or broadcasted illegally. This absolutely makes the Business Management Department and the advertisers have been trying their best to keep watch over the advertisement broadcasts. With the development of related multimedia technologies, it's possible to monitor the broadcast of those advisements. After the investigation of the current advertisement retrieval approaches, this thesis proposed the idea of adopting the audio language spectral image recognition technology into the advertisement retrieving, and further designs and implements the broadcast and television advertisement retrieval system, using the Browser/Server architecture. The major work could be summarized in follows:First, after researching the current multimedia retrieval approaches in advertisement retrieving, an advertisement retrieval approach based on audio spectrogram image recognition technology is proposed and realized in this essay. This approach converts audio signals into spectrogram images and extracts discriminative and robust features. During query, an EM-based algorithm is used to recognize advertisement clips that best match the advertisement templates through feature bits alignment. Experiments show that this advertisement retrieval approach could retrieve advertisements quickly and accurately from broadcast and television programs with its great robustness.Second, a broadcast and television advertisement retrieval system based on SSH (Spring,Struts,Hibernate)+YUI(Yahoo! User Interface Library)+FreeMarker template is designed in this essay. After doing sufficient analysis of the functional requirements and the non-functional requirements, the general framework, interface design and manual work design are proposed in this essay.Third, in this essay not only a broadcast and television advertisement retrieval system is realized, but also the layered implementation process is introduced as well. This system is of great advantages, such as beautiful interface, easy management, robustness and stability, easy expansibility, convenient maintenance and so on.The broadcast and television advertisement retrieval system described in this essay is developed by Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences. This system is used to keep watch over contents of broadcast and television programs, which contains advertisement retrieving. I was in charge of designing and developing the module of advertisement retrieving when I practiced in Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Now this system has been put into use and achieved pretty good results.
