With the development of optical fiber and optical fiber communication technology in 1970s, the optical fiber sensor technology has been rapidly developed as a new technology, which used optical signal as carrier based on optical fiber to transmit the sensoring information, due to its characteristics of high sensitivity and reliability, anti-electromagnetic interference, anti-high temperature corrosion, and high information capability. Perimeter security system based on distributed optical fiber sensor, as a new generation security system, can monitor the vibration caused by intrusion along the optical fiber continuously and effectively, and distingwish the instrusions and interferers intelligently with low error rate. It is potential applications include airports, prisons, warehouses, and villas. In this paper, a new perimeter security system based on Michelson interference is introduced. The prototype system consists of four parts: terminal, monitor PC, conductive fiber, and sensoring optical fiber. The terminal is the main research part in this paper, which includes hardware and software design and implementations. In the first part, the theory of perimeter security system is introduced. The design and implementations of terminal's hardware are demonstrated in the second part, including DSP board and optical board in order to transreceive and process optical signal. The software based on TMS320F2812 is implemented to achieve DSP control, RS485, I2C, and signal processing algorithm, and a communication protocol is designed to ensure reliable communication between PC and terminal. In order to distinguish effectively the intrusion and interference, the characteristic values calculated by variety of signal processing algorithms are matched with multiple patterns, which can effectively reduce the error rate. Finally, the perimeter security system is proved as a reliable securiy system through a long-time test.
