With the rapid development of urban construction, conventional technology is difficult to update the urban road network map timely. The map produced technology based on GPS data can resolve this question to some extent. But there are still some difficulties need to be resolved, which contained the detail of generation map is not perfect, A lot of works need to be completed by manual work. It reduced the efficiency of mapping process. This article has studied for this problem.In this thesis the main job are the following points:1) Study the acquisition technology for GPS data, and formulate the experimental program. In order to get sufficient GPS data of all the trunk road and branch road in Changyi District of Jilin, this paper has done a large number of experiments for GPS data, so as to provide the basis for urban network generation.2) Study the generation technology of road network from GPS data. First, do pretreatment for GPS data, this contain error correction, coordinate transformation. Then import the treated GPS data to blank image, and research the technology of dilate algorithm processing, corrosion algorithm processing and thinning algorithm processing, to achieve the implementation work of generate urban road network from GPS data.3) Proposed a method which can identify overpass from urban network based on GPS data and distinguish the hierarchy of overpass road automatically. First, improve the detecting algorithm of road intersection for raster image, proposed an optimization algorithm applied to identification of road intersection, to adapt to the data from thinning algorithm of this paper. Then propose a recognition technology for urban road network overpass based on GPS data, which can distinguish overpass intersection from all road intersection, and identify the road hierarchy. Analysis the design principles, and introduce the details of implementation steps.4) Test the recognition technology using actual case. Apply the overpass intersection recognition technology from this paper to actual overpass in Changyi District of Jilin, to test the usability of the recognition algorithm. Confirm the recognition technology whether or not meet the requirement by experimental data processing of overpass in the urban network.
